Wallace Collection

Tucked away just behind Selfridges, this is one of the great 19th century private collections formed in the main by the third and fourth Marquises of Hertford and the latter's son, Sir Richard Wallace. It includes fine art masterpieces by Rembrandt, Hals, Rubens, Reynolds, Gainsborough, Van Dyck, Velasquez and Titian; important collections of furniture, ceramics, goldsmiths' work, and European and Oriental arms and armour. Also one of the most representative collections in England of French 18th-century painting, sculpture, furniture and Sevres porcelain, some from the Royal Palaces of Versailles and Fontainebleau bought following the French Revolution.
