St Botolph Aldersgate ChurchMedieval St Botolph's Aldersgate suffered some damage by the Great Fire of London in 1666, but had become dilapidated by 1790 and was rebuilt by Nathaniel Wright. Its Victorian interior was restored in 2001.
Churches dedicated to St Botolph, the patron saint of travellers are located by city gates, Aldersgate was an important medieval City of London thoroughfare, there are other St Bolophs at Aldgate and Bishopsgate.
The churchyard is in the form of an adjacent garden is known as Postmans Park owing to its proximity to the former General Post Office King Edward building, until its closure in the 1990s.
