Regent's Park :: Visitors' Map of London :: A-Z Maps
Regent's ParkOne of the largest London parks, this is a Royal Park of fine open parkland containing tree-lined walks and flower displays; a large lake for yachting and rowing; Queen Mary's Gardens, famous for its rose and rockery layouts; Italianate Avenue Gardens, an open-air theatre (staging a summer season of performances of Shakespeare plays); children's boating pond and playground; tennis courts; playing fields for cricket, football, hockey, netball, rugby; refreshment pavilions, and London Zoo. Along its northern boundary, interesting boat trips and towpath walks are provided along Regent's Canal; Primrose Hill gives the only natural vantage point for a close-up panoramic view of the Capital.
This Royal Park was laid out in Regency times to the designs of John Nash (as part of his grand Regent Street development scheme) with its surround of elegant terraces and villas - some of his finest architectural work to survive, well contrasted by two interesting modern buildings, the Royal College of Physicians and the London Central Mosque.
