Queen's TheatreOpened in 1907, one of a pair - the Guielgud stands on the adjacent corner. It featured an imposing façade, grand entrance foyer and a plush green, white and gold auditorium seating over 1000. The frontage, its dome, the grand staircase and foyer spaces were destroyed by bombs in 1940, the theatre not reopening until 1959 after the exterior had been reconstructed in a modern, clean glass and steel style, and the auditorium refurbished to retain its Edwardian atmosphere.
