Old Curiosity Shop :: Visitors' Map of London :: A-Z Maps
Old Curiosity ShopA rare surviving half-timbered Tudor house with claims to be the original Dickens 'Old Curiosity Shop'. Dickens certainly drew a lot of inspiration from the vicinity: the Temple in 'Martin Chuzzlewit', Lincolns Inn in 'Bleak House', Temple Bar as a rendezvous for characters in a number of novels, and here was Telson's Bank in 'Tale of Two Cities', Child's Bank in real life, one of the oldest founded in 1671, with Oliver Cromwell, Samuel Pepys, Nell Gwynn and John Dryden among its famous clients.
