Merchant Taylors Hall :: Visitors' Map of London :: A-Z Maps
Merchant Taylors Hall: The Company has occupied its present site since 1347. The 14th century first Hall was a victim of the Great Fire of London in 1666 after which the building was restored and although much was lost in to bombing in September 1940, the Library, Court Room, Great Kitchen and 14th century Crypt survived.
By the end of the 17th century Merchant Taylors' Company connection with the tailoring trade had virtually ceased and its energies became devoted to administering its large programme of charitable work, grant making, providing housing for the elderly and support for education.
