Drapers Hall :: Visitors' Map of London :: A-Z Maps

Drapers Hall

Home of the Drapers' Company, one of the historic City Livery companies whose first Royal Charter was granted in 1364. With the expansion of the English woollen cloth trade in the 15th century and its complete power of control over the trade in the City of London, the Company achieved great prosperity.

This first Drapers Hall was in St Swithin's Lane, the site of present Hall being bought from King Henry VIII in 1543. Destroyed by the Great Fire of 1666, Drapers' Hall was rebuilt and again in 1772 after another fire, further alterations date from the 1800s.

The Drapers’ Company awards educational grants and promotes its heritage through support for textiles and textile conservation.
