St John's Smith Square Theatre
Built in 1713-28, St John's is a masterpiece of English Baroque architecture by Thomas Archer, massively isolated in the centre of the square it has four great corner towers linked by classical columns and pediments, has the nickname 'Queen Anne's Footstool'. Gutted by fire in World War II the church was restored to make a fine concert venue, attracting internationally renowned artists and performers, venue of a popular BBC lunchtime concert series.
