Savoy Theatre

Built in 1881 for Richard D'Oyly Carte and venue for the famous operettas by Gilbert and Sullivan which became to be known as the Savoy Operas, the theatre having been built on the site of the historic Savoy Palace. Famous for having been the first public building in the world to be lit entirely by electric light and also for its mirrored art deco basement auditorium which was well restored after destruction by fire in 1990.
