Theatre Royal Drury Lane Theatre
One of London's largest, oldest and most historic theatres, opened in 1812, its imposing colonnaded frontage is in fact on Catherine Street. The original theatre on this site opened in 1663 with a Royal Charter granted by Charles II, whose meetings here with Nell Gwyne were observed and recorded by Samuel Pepys. After destruction by fire the next theatre of 1674 was designed by Christopher Wren which survived until 1791.
