Royal College of Surgeons
The professional body for surgeons in England. The College promotes the highest standards of surgical practice and patient care through its programme of teaching, research and examinations and also acts as an advisory body to the Department of Health, health authorities, Trusts, hospitals and other professional bodies.
The history of the College date back to 1540 and the formation of the City Livery Company of Barber-Surgeons. A separate Company of Surgeons was founded in 1745 which moved out of the City to Lincoln's Inn Fields in 1797.
The adjacent Huntarian Museum contains the oldest medical collection in the world.
