Founded by King George IV and his then Prime Minister the Duke of Wellington in 1829, having grown and developed through mergers with several other distinguished institutions, there are now nine Schools of Study - Arts & Humanities; Biomedical & Health Sciences; the Dental Institute; Law; Medicine; Nursing & Midwifery; Physical Sciences & Engineering; Psychiatry, Social Science & Public Policy.
When the University of London was established in 1836, King's became one of its two founding colleges, together with University College London (UCL, founded in 1826).
