With its polished granite surfaces in striking contrast to the surrounding grandiose Victorian museums, the Ismaili Centre opened in 1985, it is a religious, social and cultural meeting place for the Ismaili Muslim community, it was the first such centre to be specially designed and built in the West. Besides the central prayer hall there are classrooms for religious instruction, social hall, peaceful roof garden and public exhibition gallery.
