Old Billingsgate Fish Market
Billingsgate Market, one of the City's ancient markets moved to modern premises in West India Docks, E14 in 1982. The historical market site in Lower Thames Street dated back to pre-Norman times and although corn and coal trades flourished there until 1699, thereafter Billingsgate dealt exclusively in fish. The building of 1874, with its fish weathervanes, carved Britannia and dolphins is now used as offices.
