Official home of the Lord Mayor of London, built in 1753 as one of London's grandest Georgian town palaces, the famous banquets given by the Lord Mayor take place in the Egyptian Hall.
While the idea of creating a permanent residence for Lord Mayors who did not have their own livery hall arose after the Great Fire of 1666, it was not until the mid-18th century that the imposing Palladian style Mansion House was built. Entertaining rooms include the imposing Salon, Ballroom and the great Egyptian Hall, there are also private apartments for the Lord Mayor and his family.
