An important art gallery at the heart of Southbank Centre and venue for the visual arts with its changing exhibitions of modern art, contemporary and historical themes, also important international loan exhibitions. This strikingly individual purpose-built gallery was constructed in 1967 in the so called brutalist style with its exposed concrete a subject of constant and perhaps appropriate controversy.
