Bevis Marks Synagogue

The Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue was founded in Creechurch Lane in 1657, and rebuilt on this Bevis Marks site in 1701 making it the oldest in Great Britain. The interior remains largely unaltered with many original furnishings and fitting, the imposing oak Ark is in the style of a grand architectural reredos, the largest of the seven chandeliers was presented by the Great Synagogue in Amsterdam.
