St Etheldreda's Church
Also called Ely Chapel, having once belonged to the Palace of the Bishops of Ely, though the Palace was demolished in 1772. The ancient church is in fine medieval decorated style c.1290, restored by Giles Gilbert Scott in 1935; large west windows are c.1300 and the south west doorway was the original entrance direct from the palace.
Renamed St Etheldreda Church on restoration to Roman Catholic worship in 1874, this is a church of the Rosminian Catholic Institute of Charity, founded by Antonio Rosmini in 1828.
