Liberal Jewish Synagogue
The first synagogue on this site opened in 1925 though only the original imposing portico of six ionic columns were retained in the modern rebuilding, opened in 1991. There is a memorial to the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust by the sculptor Anish Kapoor dedicated 10 November 1996, the 58th anniversary of Kristallnacht.
The Liberal Jewish movement was founded in 1911 to provide an alternative form of worship to those traditionalist members of British Jewry who felt uninvolved or out of sympathy with the then existing traditionalist patterns of worship.
