American Church

Formerly the site of a tabernacle founded in the 1750s by George Whitefield 1714 -1770; along with the Wesley brothers, one of the founders of the non-conformist church, and active in missionary work in the American colonies.

The tabernacle was hit by a German V2 rocket during the Second World War its replacement chapel being opened in 1957 and is now the home of American Church in London, run as an international, non-denominational Christian community. The building is called the George Whitefield Memorial Church.
