All Hallows by the Tower Church
Has a history dating back to Saxon times being founded in 675.The Norman church unusually survived the Great Fire of 1666 despite its close proximity to the source in Pudding Lane - an event watched by Samuel Pepys from the tower, only to be destroyed by bombs in 1941. Rebuilt above the 14th century barrel vault crypt in Gothic style by Lord Mottistone and re-dedicated in 1957, a new spire being added to the surviving 17th century tower.
William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, was baptised here, the founder of Toc H, Philip 'Tubby' Clayton, was Vicar for many years.
