Famous in the 18th and early 19th century as a coaching terminus when it surrounded three side of the courtyard and access to the rooms was along covered exterior balconies. Only one side survives of this last remaining galleried inn in London, it is a property of the National Trust. The George Inn was mentioned by Charles Dickens in his novel Little Dorrit.
