Until 1940, the headquarters of the Commissioners of Customs and Excise. This present building with its imposing 488 ft long Thames frontage dates from 1817, although there have been successive Customs Houses on this site since the 14th century. The interior includes the Commissioners boardroom, library and 190 ft Long Room.
The Commissioners are now at New Kings Beam House, Upper Ground, SE2.
